Writing to you about Friday the 13th on Saturday the 14th. Actually many people seem to believe that yesterday was a bad day. But was it? Maybe for some, but my personal experience denies it. Well you find an explanation about this day from the infamous "Da Vinci Code" but I am not sure about it's validity. But Jason Voorhees might have something to say about why this day is so horrifying for some of us.(And oh, his mother too) But don't our beliefs here represent the superstitious part of our lives? Friday the 13th and even the number 13 they are considered to give us bad luck. But how much bad luck do they bring? Not as bad luck as some of your friends and girlfriends and boyfriends I would like to notice. Actually we ll hold beliefs that are not completely logical. For instance I think that rain gives me a hefty boost of energy every time I am lucky enough to see it. But there is a place we should draw the line. Well, this might be a happy day for the Americans but it is an average day for us. Well for university students like myself it is a special day but it is as special to us as is the day Aung Sang Suki (Leader of Myanmar, sorry if I have misspelt the name) was placed under house arrest was special to her. I am happy to declare that we have another strike on our hands, this time by the lecturers. And by the way the non-academic's strike is over but it is to no good end as it is obvious from the following shortcomings. Well, we can always blame the government for this. Well actually it is not as it seems. I am not blaming the government needlessly. Exactly a year ago, the same situation occurred and we were "grounded" for a month. The government promised a pay rise for the lecturers but it was never given. That is why this action is taking place, yet again. Government has surely been very unenthusiastic about increasing the salary of the civilians or rather the commoners. CO

Being a university student in Sri Lanka sure sucks sometimes.Being a student of the University of Moratuwa can even be harder. Of course currently we are ranked number one out of all the universities in Sri Lanka, but I would say sometimes that it would be better if we were allowed to be more HUMAN than being like machines at times. Some say after a long pause tomorrow, the university will be opened. How naive I might add because the non academics' union action is still not withdrawn. God save us all! Sri Lankan government surely is stubborn. Actually they play with the lives of the future generations. But of course they are politicians and politicians need empty headed people in the society so their regime will not be questioned. No matter what their party is, majority is the same.
